Driven by the belief that every family deserves to thrive, this housing scheme re-imagines housing as a communal space where diverse ages connect within the low-income community. The elderly find a supportive haven, children grow through imagination, and those in need gain opportunities to flourish. Fostering a sense of belonging, the community is filled with laughter and wisdom. Prioritizing engaging exploration, the proposal features a timber structural facade inspired by the stability of roots and the adaptive growth of trees, allowing for constant thriving. As part of a wider master plan for Frog Island in Leicester, this development also provides a nursery, accommodating the broader children population of the low-income community. This design breaks social barriers, allowing individuals to feel part of a whole.A housing scheme that truly bridges gaps, uniting one community through shared experiences.

OUR MANIFESTO

Walls can be the barriers between us or the foundation that supports our environment to help us thrive and grow. They don’t have to be whole, they can serve as a supporting bridge between us or have gaps that invites the dialogues that foster our relations. As of now we are confined in boxes of homes segregated from our neighbouring communities.Architecture should be open and integrate different backgrounds, allow us to collaborate and build upon one another. It shouldn’t segregate the interior and exterior but integrate low income communities from the centre with exterior wealthier ones .It should accommodate the future and be beneficial in the long-term whilst honouring the stories and heritage of its time and culture. It should adapt to the needs of its users needs and be accessible to all ,for it is hard to be the odd one out.The place should be united, feeling secure and safe, be focused on sustainability and supporting long term budgeting .It should be flexible in its spaces whilst maintaining balance. The communities should be diverse and inclusive, fostering collaboration and understanding. With neighbours ready to inspire and assist it can broken still be ready to bloom.
